Digital Transformation at McGhee's Bakery

TraceSense has been working with McGhee's Bakery in Glasgow to modernise and streamline key areas of their production process, delivering practical improvements on the ground rather than just adding another system.

Stock Control That Works on the Shop Floor

We implemented a full stock control solution that gives the team clear, real-time visibility of materials across the bakery. The focus was on making it simple and reliable to use day-to-day, helping reduce waste and giving better control over stock movements without slowing production down.

Batch Recipe Weighing for Consistency

In the potato scone mixing area, we introduced batch recipe weighing to ensure every mix is accurate and repeatable. This has helped remove guesswork from the process, improving consistency while reducing the risk of errors.

Process Control & Quality Checks

We also rolled out process control checks alongside our quality module. This allows the team to record and monitor checks as they happen, rather than relying on paper or manual processes. It’s made it easier to maintain standards and gives full traceability when it’s needed.

Integration with Sage 500

As part of the project, TraceSense integrates directly with Sage 500 by posting purchase order confirmations. This ensures accurate data flows between the factory floor and the wider business, without the need for duplicate entry.

Rolling Out Across the Plant

After a successful implementation, the system is now being rolled out across the rest of the plant. The aim is to bring the same level of control, visibility, and consistency to all areas of production.

The Result

This project is a good example of how TraceSense works in practice — focusing on solutions that are easy to use, properly integrated, and deliver real operational benefits from day one.
